Music Together BABIES ONLY Ages 0-8 months
The Music Together Babies class, for families with infants from birth through seven months at the semester start, is a one-time introduction to Music Together and to early childhood music development. After this one semester, the family enrolls in a mixed-age class. The music activities in a Babies class are specifically designed to teach parents how to support music development in infancy and how to connect with their infants through music, using concepts like “purposeful touch,” “sound layering,” and “dancing for baby.” Babies classes use the same collection as mixed-age and Big Kids classes, enabling a seamless transition for families and teachers between class programs. Babies classes allow us the opportunity to honor each child’s musical birthright by supporting music development in infancy. Because of this, these children receive earlier musical support which helps them develop and grow into confident music-makers.
Music Together Mixed Ages
This class follows the recommendations of child development researchers—grouping children of a variety of ages because this fosters natural, family-style learning. Younger children enjoy watching and imitating older ones; older children learn by leading younger ones; and adults are happy because the children in the family can go to class together. Each child participates at his or her own level in singing, moving, chanting, listening, watching, or exploring musical instruments. Any caregivers—parents, grandparents, nanny—can bring the children. The whole family is welcome for this important family music experience.
Rhythm Kids Level 1 Ages 4-6
Rhythm Kids Level 1 is the next musical step for your preschool child (ages 4–6). Parent/caregiver participation is encouraged but not required. Feel free to reach out to Center Director Leslie Pratt by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss your child's readiness to participate independently. Each week we drum, sing, dance, play rhythm instruments, and begin to play music-based games. Rhythm Kids Level 1 guides children toward developmentally appropriate music and movement activities, where they can begin to take charge, lead others, and be musically creative, as they:
make up their own drumming patterns
invent new ways to play rhythm instruments (shakers, sticks, etc.)
create movement ideas for songs
even take a drum solo!
Rhythm Kids Level 1 follows through on the Music Together® vision to help children complete the pathway of early childhood music development from birth through age eight. Classes are for preschoolers ages 4–6 and include:
10 weekly, 45-minute classes
Animal Collection Songbook and 2 CDs each semester
Access to online drum-play videos and other material
